Usage of Postinor-2

1. Emergency Contraception:
   • Timing: It is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. It should be taken within 72 hours (3 days), but the sooner it is taken, the more effective it is.
   • Dosage: Postinor-2 usually comes in a two-dose pack. The first pill should be taken as soon as possible, followed by the second pill 12 hours later. Some formulations are a single dose of 1.5 mg.
2. Effectiveness:
   • Reduction in Pregnancy Risk: Postinor-2 can significantly reduce the risk of pregnancy if taken promptly after unprotected sex. Its effectiveness decreases the longer you wait to take it after intercourse.
   • Not a Regular Contraceptive: It is not intended for regular use as a contraceptive method and should only be used in emergencies.
3. Side Effects:
   • Common Side Effects: These may include nausea, fatigue, headache, dizziness, breast tenderness, and changes in menstrual bleeding (such as spotting or an earlier/later period).
   • Less Common Side Effects: Some women might experience abdominal pain or cramps, vomiting (if vomiting occurs within two hours of taking the pill, another dose may be needed), and diarrhea.
